AUTOMOBILE - FULL COURSE
The new mandatory driving course for obtaining a class 5 drivers license is separated into 4 Phases that are completed within a minimum of 13 months.
PHASE 1
Our courses start you off with 5 in class sessions of 2 hours each. These will be your introduction to the vehicle, the driver, the environment and at-risk behaviours. They are aimed at establishing a profile of a safe, cooperative and responsible driver and are a prerequisite for obtaining a learners permit.
* A theory exam at the driving school must be passed at the end of this phase to move on to Phase 2.
PHASE 2
This phase is made up of 2 theoretical courses (2 hours each) and 4 sessions of practical driving (1 hour each). These are designed to start you off on your motoring career by training you to perform all the basic manoeuvres of driving a passenger vehicle. Eco-driving principles are also covered in this phase.
PHASE 3
This phase is made up of 3 theoretical courses (2 hours each) and 6 sessions of practical driving (1 hour each). Sharing the road with other users safely and efficiently is the focus of this phase. You will get introduced to modernized defensive driving strategies and explore the dangers of speed and driving under the influence. We will also work on developing your decision making and knowledge of the road system.
PHASE 4
This phase is made up of 2 theoretical courses (2 hours each) and 5 sessions of practical driving (1 hour each). Using the road network independently and responsibly is the focus of this phase.
* A theory test at the SAAQ must be passed at the end of the theoretical courses of this phase to be eligible to attempt your road test. This must be a minimum of 10 months after passing the theoretical test from Phase 1.
** A road test at the SAAQ must be passed at the end of the practical courses of this phase to receive a probationary driver’s license. This must be a minimum of 2 months after passing the theoretical test at the SAAQ.
