Safety – Being a safe driver means that you do not present a danger to other motorists on the road. Quick tips are: check your blind spots, drive at an appropriate speed considering the weather conditions and allowed speed limits and always respect the rules of right of way.
Autonomy – Being an autonomous driver means you are able to navigate your vehicle independently of any instructions, and to complete specific manoeuvres without aid.
Vision – Having good vision means you are able to seek out, identify and anticipate possible dangers on the road. You need to continuously scan the road, monitor your rear and sideview mirrors and always look far and wide.
Practice these 3 aspects of driving and you will be in very good standing to get your driver’s license!

How Automobile Insurance Works
Insurance companies charge you a yearly fee for insuring your liability on a car.
1-Way insurance: This means that if you get into an accident, they will fix the other person’s car.
2-Way insurance: You can also choose to extend your coverage and insure your own car in the case of an accident.
The yearly rates you are charged depend on many criteria such as the car, driving experience, driving lessons, driving record, age, city and many other factors!
To make thing more complicated, every company will charge you differently depending on these criteria.
Basics – Private insurance
When it comes to damage caused to material things (cars, equipment, etc.), you must hold personal liability insurance from a private insurer. This guarantees that in the case of an accident, you will be compensated for damages you caused. The minimum amount of insurance required in Quebec is 50 000$.
Basics – Public insurance
Every year, some 200 000 accidents occur on the road in Quebec. Victims, whether responsible or not, are compensated by the S.A.A.Q for any bodily injury they suffer. This is what is referred to as Quebec’s “no fault insurance”.
Choosing an insurance company
As mentioned before, insurance companies vary greatly from one to the other and finding the right one for you can be a daunting task for the new driver. We recognize this need and have done the research for you. We looked for a reputable insurance company that meets these criteria:
+ Economical rates for new drivers
+ Great reductions for having completed lessons at a driving school
+ Gives the driver the most complete protection as a basic plan.

• Warm up your car no more than 30 seconds in winter.
• Do not overuse your remote starter.
• Use cruise control on the highway.
• Use air conditioning sparingly in the city. Turn it on on the freeway.
• Accelerate smoothly and avoid sudden braking.
