What is Class 1?
A clA class 1 licence authorizes you to drive a combination of vehicles:

• Double-axle road tractor with a net weight of 4,500 kg or more hauling one or more trailers or semitrailers;
• a triple-axle road tractor hauling one or more trailers or semitrailers;
• a truck covered by class 3 hauling a trailer or semitrailer whose net weight is 4,500 kg or more and which is only
   used to transport equipment, tools or furnishings as part of its permanent equipment;
• a truck covered by class 3 hauling any trailer or semitrailer other than those described above, with a net weight
   of 2,000 kg or more.
• all other types of road vehicles, except for motorcycles.

Theoretical
This part of the course is designed to introduce you to the essential aspects of operating a heavy vehicle as well as to prepare you to pass the S.A.A.Q. exam for the class 1 license. You will have access to our online training program that will enable you to prepare for the knowledge test from the comfort of your own home. Theoretical training can take up to 20 hours.

The following topics will be covered:

• The Commercial driver's Obligations
• Dangerous Substances
• Air Brakes Systems
• Major and Minor Defect
• General class 1, 2, 3 concepts
• Specific class 1 notions

*The knowledge test at the S.A.A.Q. is a multiple choice exam of a similar format as our online training, and is done on the computer at the S.A.A.Q.’s office. The mark required to pass is 75%. Once successfully completed, you can move on to the next section – practical training!

Practical
You will start your practical training with 20 hours of observation. During this time you will ride along with your instructor, as well as do several rounds of technical inspection. Once this is completed you will take over in the driver seat for 20 hours of driving.

What is Class 2?
A class 2 licence authorizes you to drive: a bus with a seating capacity of more than 24 passengers; all other types of vehicles, except for vehicles covered by class 1 and motorcycles. • any truck with three or more axles; a road vehicle hauling a trailer or semitrailer: with a net weight of less than 2,000 kg; with a net weight of at least 2,000 kg but less than 4,500 kg which is only used to transport equipment, tools or furnishings as part of its permanent equipment.
